Intro for @bethany
Jack had no idea where he was when he came to. Everything felt numb and it was all too bright to see at first - his eyes shut almost immediately when they opened, stung by the hospital lighting overhead. Beeping sounds seemed to echo ceaselessly around him. There was a rushed shuffling and he felt hands on him. Brow furrowed, he opened his eyes again to a middle-aged nurse smiling down at him, "Thank goodness you're awake," she said in a sweet tone - not at all deterred by Jack's subsequent confused cursing. "shhhh," she shook her head mildly, "calm boy - you're okay. You have a broken leg and suffered some internal bleeding, but we fixed you up just in time. You need rest now," Jack's look of confusion and anger subsided as the lady spoke... so that whole thing... the elevator, Teddy... that hadn't been a nightmare. Shit.
The nurse strolled away and out of the room, going to notify Teddy on how her friend was awake now - she could visit him if she wanted to. Meanwhile, Jack struggled with catching up to the present moment - trying to fill in the gaps of his hazy memory. He remembered getting stuck, and... how the elevator had plummeted - his leg - but, what else? He didn't remember at all how the hell they'd gotten out of there, but maybe that was for the best. As long as he wasn't dead, he was alright. Bedridden with his leg elevated awkwardly, but not dead.
He wondered if his family had been contacted and wanted to ask, but the nurse had already left. He'd have to face them sometime anyway... and being posted up in the hospital was a better place than ever to see them again - at least then he'd have pity on his side. But then he wondered about Rumer. Did she know he was back, that he was here? The thought was painful but at the same time, comforting. He missed her a lot... he'd wanted to surprise her and of fucking course he'd fucked that up. If she was mad at him he wouldn't be surprised, but he hoped not. He didn't want her to see him under these circumstances but well, if he'd learned anything out on his own it was that nothing went his way. He and everyone else in this world were just subjects to coincidence.
At least he was alive. That was what really mattered, right?
