Welcome all to the Salem High Masquerade Dance!
As this is starting way later than intended, I’m going to forgo the posting order. If you have anything to interact with, please interact with it as you can!
As for the gemstone dances, I won’t have a specific time limit for them. We will start off with the first dance after introductions. As posts slow in the thread, I will post interrupting the action with an announcement for the next gemstone dance to begin. Next posts should act accordingly and end their current dance and move to the next.
If you didn’t get a chance to finish your dance and the partners are switched, feel free to continue it as a 1x1 in a different thread!

Event:: Same High School Masquerade Winter Ball
Date and time (in RP): December 14th, Friday evening. The dance began at 6:00 PM. It is currently 6:30 PM. A few late arrivals are trickling in, but most of the school has already arrived.
Location: Salem College’s Event Hall….. - …… - …… -Part I – Introductions….. - …… - …… -
Tempest walked from her position at the table she and Gwen were sitting at to go and get a drink for herself. It was loud in here, she thought, listening to the obnoxious sound of the radio playing Everytime We Touch by Cascada. She took a drink of water from the buffet, observing as the later arrivals waited at the door for their tickets to be checked by the chaperone teachers. One of them was Mr. Ironsi, a teacher who Tempest liked fine enough but found slightly annoying. She decided to keep her distance and glanced at the flyers advertising the gemstone dances. They were due to start in about fifteen minutes.
Tempest glanced at the three stones in her palm and their unique shapes. She was curious who she’d be stationed with. The fluorescents above reflected on them, creating a kaleidoscope of colors on her arm.
She had been torn about coming, but talked into it by Gwen. She was going, and she was not about to let her best friend go alone. Besides, Dane was here, and the guy was fine company. Tempest had spotted some of the girls from the soccer team here and there, strewn about, most fawning over their boyfriends beyond their masks. Some of the figures were more recognizable than others. A few girls had even forgone their masks at some points, showing their faces. Tempest quite liked being behind hers, though it was not the most original of designs. It was obvious who she was, though the usual Tempest did not sport such dark makeup as she wore now. Her eyes, lips, and nails were all done a deep green to match her dress. ‘Queen of the forest’, Gwen had called her.
The lights shifted, the crowd parted, and the song changed. A slower song began to play and Tempest glanced towards the DJ station. The DJ looked much too into the playlist; Tempest suspected this was more fun for them than it was for anyone else here.
Needing a break from the hustle and bustle of the floor, Tempest sashayed to the side, leaning on the wall by the bathroom. She glanced to the slow dancers. Moments like this were better when one was in a relationship, she mused.….. - …… - …… -
Elle had insisted to Jett that they had to arrive separately to the dance.
”Because it’s a masquerade,” she insisted, speaking loudly over the phone, ”If you can’t find me even hidden behind my mask then it means you aren’t my soulmate!” She had slammed the phone, huffing, returning to curling her hair.
Tyler dropped her off in his car. Elle was nervous Jett wouldn’t be able to find her and was fidgeting. Tyler noticed, and leaned over, his hand comforting on her shoulder. ”He’ll find you, I know that kid. He never takes his eyes off of you,” he assured, giving her a good natured wink. His words assured Elle much better than Mitchell’s had (”who cares if he finds you, he’s still dating you”).
”You really think so? Mitchell didn’t think so.” Elle pouted, fingering her mask in her lap. It was cute, pretty, but Elle wondered if her boyfriend would be able to find her. Besides she heard of the gemstone dances – what if she was paired with someone else! What if Jett was paired with some soul sucking woman?! She felt herself getting fired up. Beside her, Tyler laughed.
”He’s not got a romantic bone in his entire body. Don’t worry about what overprotective big brother Mitchell says,” He pulled away from Elle, smiling over his shoulder at her. ”Now go. He’s going to find you.”
Elle felt a warmth spread through her body at the idea of Jett’s reaction upon seeing her. ”Thanks, Tyler! I love you!” she cheered, fastening her mask on. She turned towards him and made a face. He false gasped.
”Who’s this stranger in my car?” He asked. After another round of banter, Elle exited the vehicle, standing in full glary in front of the event hall at Salem College. She took a deep breath and approached.
She was late; but one thing she was glad to hear was that she could opt out of the gemstone dances! She told them she was meeting her boyfriend inside, and after presenting her ticket, Elle began to look around for Jett or Tina. They had to be here… somewhere.
She heard a slow song come on – Truly, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden – as she heard familiar, obnoxious laughter. She turned her head and saw a very recognizable Victor Bonneau in the heart of a group of people. Some, she recognized, some, she did not. An unrecognizable boy in a very bright mask beside him intimidated Elle.
Elle could have gone over, but she wanted Jett to find her. And if she was near Victor, she’d be easy to spot! Elle slipped away, towards the tables, stopping to compliment a girl on her hideous shoes. The girl was lucky she was unrecognizable to Elle, otherwise it’d be the talk of the school!….. - …… - …… -
Victor did not notice Elle in the distance, too busy laughing at a joke that came from a mysteriously masked woman beside him.
He had arrived on time, realitively. His brother had dropped him off and said not a word about anything. Victor was proud of his choice in suit – white was a rare color, and the gold trim just suited him perfectly. He was already surrounded by mysterious beauties who he didn’t recognize, for the most part. Some of them may be losers, who had cleaned up for the night. Victor wouldn’t really care, so long as none of these girls got any funny ideas about anything further happening. The only girl he remotely had anything ‘long term’ with was Tina, and even that wasn’t exactly long term.
”You’re scaring the girls away, Greg,” Victor nudged his best friend. ”You picked the most unattractive mask here. Was it deliberate?” Perhaps he wanted to spend more time with him? Now that Victor was convinced Greg was gay and had the hots for him, he wouldn’t put that theory past his best friend. It was a solid one, and if it were true, Victor wouldn’t even be mad about it.
He leaned a little closer, smirk visible under his mask. ”Where’s that road trip boy toy? He coming tonight?”….. - …… - …… -
”I am going to be late because I was doing your hair.” Nicolette deadpanned, swatting her brother’s hand away from the top of his head. Zak did not look happy. ”You should wear your hair like this more often. You look normal.”
”I look stupid.” Zak responded.
”You say that like it’s not the default, loser.” Nicolette sneered. ”Don’t fucking touch it, or I’m telling mom the eyeliner she found in the bathroom wasn’t mine.”
It was a request of their mother for the twins to both attend Salem High’s masquerade. When Nicolette had said she was going, Mrs. Vosler asked if her son was. When the answer was no, she insisted on changing it to yes. As Fallyn was going, Zak had reluctantly agreed. He would find them, leave Nicolette alone, and let her be. He’d heard of the gemstone dances, and wanted to refuse them. Nicolette insisted it would help him find a girlfriend, but Zak really wasn’t interested in that.
Nicolette had wanted to give him a swift up-do to match the current style, but when he refused to have his hair cut and Nicolette refused to walk into the event with a guy sporting a fucking mullet, she had swept his hair up into a bun at the back of his head, styling it, and she quoted, ”like Johnny Depp in that one movie”. Zak didn’t like it much, but he supposed if it made him unrecognizable, it worked.
At the event, Nicolette had ditched Zak immediately, and unfortunately, he’d been forced to accept the gem dances before he realized what he was saying. Zak glanced at the gemstones.
He was aware of eyes on him, though none of them recognized him. His face was hidden by the mask, his hair different. The only connections to his usual style he had right now were his vest, gothic in style and a deep rich purple, and his towering height. He had told Fallyn his outfit for the day so they could better find him, and immediately felt overwhelmed. He slipped towards the back. Tempest was not too far from him but he did not know her, so he remained against the wall, staring at the little gemstone pieces his sister had forced into his hands. Who the fuck was he going to be stuck dancing with?
