Susan hummed as she looked at her computer screen. Sounded like Wendy and Miles would be over in a few minutes! Susan was surprised that she had such a ready plan made – she had been hoping to only have them over Thursday! But alas, she was always down for some friends coming over! Especially when she was so bored and lonely on her own.
Susan sat at her kitchen table, her laptop in front of her. To her left were her grades – pretty much all done. She had just graded a test and it was so difficult. It seemed no one had quite grasped the concept of what she was teaching them this time! Susan was just having a general bad time this semester, even though she didn’t like to let that much on. Come January, her baby brother was going to get his own apartment. He wouldn’t use the second bedroom in her apartment anymore for summer breaks – that was to become Adelaide’s bedroom. Susan knew it was coming, but it was so hard to let him go! And then with her teaching, it seemed as though she was losing her touch! Her students didn’t seem to click, and as much as she tried to make the learning fun and interactive it just wasn’t clicking. She didn’t know what she was doing wrong! And on top of that Adelaide was getting older – already three! Oh, her kids needed to stop growing up so fast! She needed to find that love for teaching she had originally had.
She exhaled and pulled away from her chair. Her room was sort of messy – she picked up her laptop, and moved it to her room. She was expecting Arthur to bring Adelaide back at about 8 that night because she couldn’t sleep over at his suite. So until 8, she could have friends over to drink! She glanced at the clock – 5. Perfect!
Susan grabbed some glasses from the counter and put them on the table. She then brought out her own glass of wine in case anyone wanted some. At that moment she heard a knock and lit up.
”Coming, coming!” She said, brushing the front of her dress down. She hopped over to the door and opened it. ”Hi! Nice to see you siblings --come in, come in!”
She ushered Miles and Wendy inside. ”So, if anyone wants wine, I’m more than willing to share!”
