Adelaide sat in her and Annabelle’s first period class, bored out of her mind. Her best friend sat to her left, and to her right there was an empty seat. They currently attended 8th grade in Salem’s local middle school. After much thought and deliberation, Adelaide had decided to apply to Metric Academy. She, and Annabelle, had both been accepted. Their peers were, in an overwhelming majority, going to Salem High. Adelaide considered it a blessing – Metric would have a way better start than Middle School! She was already prepping for it!
At the moment it was about a month into the school year. Adelaide was prepared for another boring Thursday before she got to go home with Annabelle and hang around. Lately Annabelle had had some problems with this annoying boy who would constantly try to get back together with her – while Annabelle never did so, it sent a boiling feeling of jealousy throughout Adelaide’s gut that she constantly tried to avoid.
This particular class was just beginning when the teacher cleared her throat to get the students attention. Adelaide turned away from Annabelle as the teacher told them that a new student was going be joining the class. Immediately most of the girls wondered if it was a hot boy. Adelaide snorted and reached over to nudge Annabelle playfully.
”How much you wanna bet it’s a hot girl instead?” She asked, ”I got 50 cents in my pocket.”
