~||Appearance & Personality||~
You sang me Spanish lullabies, the sweetest sadness in your eyes
Appearance: Obediah is a natural ginger. When he was a kid the color was quite vibrant but ever since his teen years it has dulled and looks quite brown now. His face is covered with freckles, something he is embarrassed about, to be honest. He is a bit on the shorter side for guys, standing at 5’9” and he has a lanky appearance to him, one that hasn’t changed since he was small.
Obediah tends to dress in whatever is available to him, though it tends to be what he refers to as ‘duds’. He hasn’t dressed up since his days at Metric.
Personality: Obediah has always been a quiet individual. He tends to keep to himself and is rarely seen out about Salem unless he has to go shopping or whatever for the essentials. He is a caring individual and will often be seen in the park watching the birds. He also takes care of strays from time to time. Whenever humans try to speak to him, he is skittish and jumpy. He hates eye contact and will make every attempt to avoid it.

~||Family & Backstory||~
We walked along a crowded street, you took my hand and danced with me
Family members:
-Boone Idleburg--Father (A rancher in Texas that honestly spent more time drinking than anything since the death of his wife)
-Rosalie Idleburg--Mother (A beloved woman, was thrown from a horse and suffered a broken neck. She died on the way to the hospital.)
-Jericho Idleburg-- Older Brother by a few years (Obediah is sickened by the thought of his brother and avoids contact with him at all costs.
Backstory: Obediah was born as the second son and child to Boone and Rosalie Idenburg. Growing up on the outskirts of Salado, Texas, Obediah and his older brother were expected to help maintain the ranch from a very young age. Their mother homeschooled the boys and was a rather brilliant woman. She was adored by her husband and children and was often found with the horses if she wasn't teaching or doing housework.
Obediah actually doesn't really remember much about hi mother, but he does remember the day she died. Obediah was five. Boone and Rosalie were out for a ride together, on the backs of Silvertoe and Whisper--the two most trusted Bays. No one knows if it was a snake or what, but the next thing Obediah knew, his father was shouting at Obediah and his brother to call 911 because Rosalie had been flung from Whisper and into a fence. She died on the way to the hospital, her neck broken and the blood not circulating to her brain.
When the news had been revealed to the boys, Obediah clung to Jericho and the boys wept into each other. It seemed like they cried like that for days. After Rosalie was buried on the family plot, life went back to normal around the ranch except now the brothers were expected to attend public school in town. The brothers were faced with adversity in the public school system and bonded together with an 'us versus them' mentality. Obediah didn't want to go anywhere without Jericho and vice versa.
After a few years the family ranch went under and the Idleburg family had to move into town, sharing a small apartment and selling most of their belongings. Jericho and Obediah were forced to not only share a room, but a bed as well while their father spent many nights drunk and on the couch. Unfortunately their money problems didn't stop there and soon their heat and electricity were shut off-- in the middle of winter months.
Then, the secret troubles began. It began almost innocently, with the first night the heat was turned off. It was freezing in their room and while they normally stayed on far corners of the bed, the brothers were then forced to use each other's body heat to stay warm. innocent, right? Well as time dragged on and there was still no heat, Obediah began to go through the awkward stage of puberty. This was not unnoticed by Jerichoo, a high school boy with sexual frustrations one could not believe.
Nights became the worst nightmare for Obediah. The sight of his brother began to sicken him. Time spent away from the family was sought. Enter in Fiona Grey. They met by the river, where she was attempting a painting for a class. She was not terribly good at it, but the painting peeked Obediah's interests. After talking with Fiona for not even an hour he had taken the paintbrush from her and was painting away, improving the landscape tenfold.
Fiona took him to the art teacher the next day, showing off the landscape Obediah had taken over from her. Obediah's talents were praised and he was given his own materials so that he could hone in on his abilities. Fiona encouraged her newfound friend and their bond became very close. In fact it was through her that he found out about Metric. The thought of a school far away from Texas intrigued him. Naturally he applied. he and Fiona both got in on scholarships.
Upon arrival to Metric, everything was foreign. His only friend was Fiona but she quickly became busy with her own classes and the cheerleading squad, which she had joined. Obediah seemed to fade into the background but then one day in class he met a boy by the name of Willow Montana. The two hit it off and a friendship grew in those painting classes. They talked about everything it seemed: sports, cars, painting, girls.. Obediah even admitted to Willow that he felt strong affections for his best friend.
Obediah introduced his two friends to each other and the three of them all became almost inseparable. That was, until Fiona and Willow started dating. Obediah was furious with Willow! How could he, after Obediah told the boy how he felt about Fiona? He started speaking to Willow less and less, eventually the situation being noticed by Fiona.
Fiona pulled Obediah to the side, asking him why he was so distant.Rather than admit his feelings for her, Obediah told her he missed how close they had been. This was responded to with a small smile from Fiona, who wiped the tears that had started to fall off his cheeks with her handkerchief. It was that day that she told him to keep it and he knew.. Obediah knew he was madly in love with Fiona Rose Grey.
Every opportunity he could get to have her alone was jumped on. He knew that she and Willow were dating and were quite in love themselves, but Obediah hoped that increased interaction with himself would lead to Fiona one day finding she loved him and would dump Willow. Then, their second year of Metric High was when everything seemed like it all would fall into place. Obediah stumbled upon a distressed Fiona, whom had just had her first fight with Willow. Obediah offered her a ride and he took her back to her dorm.
It was unknown to him that she had been drinking. But as they sat on her bed, Fiona wept into his chest and mumbled about the fight into his chest. Naturally, Obediah couldn't leave her in this condition so he tried to comfort her as best he could. Fiona took notice and before he knew it, they were kissing. All his logic was out the door. Normally he wouldn't let a situation like this continue, but Obediah had waited so long to be with Fiona.
The next morning, when he awoke naked beside her, he had this feeling that everything was finally going to go his way. Then she awoke. An argument broke out between them. Fiona was adamant that last night could not ever happen again. She and Willow were in love, they were going to get married after high school.. Obediah was heartbroken and after getting dressed he left angrily.
A few days went by. The soccer team won the championship. Fiona and Willow disappeared. His anger stewed.
A phone call had startled him that fateful night. It was from Willow, slurring words and shouting angry words. Fiona was in the background, sounding terrified. Willow growled into the phone about Obediah coming over to the motel or Willow would go over and kill Obediah in his bed. The sounds of Fiona in the background had been what made up his mind. In his mind, he saw Willow hurting her. The monster had to be stopped. So a visit to the weapons store and Obediah took both a gun and a knife.
When he got to the motel room.. The tables were turned. He had secured a cardkey, claiming to have lost his. But when he entered the room, instead of seeing what he had hoped, it was the complete opposite. Fiona was on top of Willow and the couple was drunkenly laughing, moaning, kissing.. Happy. Obediah saw red.
In a fit of rage, Obediah slammed the door shut and grabbed Fiona by her hair, yanking her off of Willow. Willow was so high and in a daze that eh didn't even notice. But Fiona.. When Obediah first plunged the knife into her she screamed. That caused him to cover her mouth and he dragged her backwards into the bathroom. There he shoved her into the bathtub and he brought the knife down into her forty more times. Willow was oblivious in the next room.
When the fog cleared, Obediah was covered in Fiona's blood. But there was no time to mourn. He was certain the police were on their way so Obediah washed himself, switched shirts with Willow, put the gun in the other boy's pants, and placed the knife in Willow's palm. He ran out of the room and went home, weeping once he was back in his room. The next day Metric got the news about Fiona and Willow. Obediah feigned shock but the tears were real.
The next few years of attending were a blur. He remembered graduating with okay grades, but he wasn't exceptional. And no one really wanted to hire him, let alone buy his landscape paintings. So he took the only job that would have him: Salem High's nighttime janitor. He mostly stays because he refuses to go back home and here he feels closer to Fiona, whom he regrets killing every day of his life.
~||Social Aspects||~
When you left you kissed my lips, told me you would never forget these images
Social Life: Obediah doesn’t have many friends. Actually, he has none. Because he works nights and is so closed off to everyone around him, it is a wonder to even see him around town unless he’s at the park painting and watching the birds. When someone does try to become friends with him he often pushes them away, not wanting anyone to get too close.
Notable Possessions: A handkerchief that Fiona gave him one day. He keeps it close on his person and will take it out, rubbing it on his face and inhaling the faint scent of her perfume whenever he gets upset.
He needs some mode of transportation, so his crummy old 2000 Honda Civic Does just find.
Important relationships:
Fiona Rose Grey. She was amazing, and the first person at Metric to show him true, genuine human kindness. They became very close friends rather quickly. Obadiah trusted her more than he had trusted anyone before. He was madly in love with her, especially after their one-night fling while she was dating Willow. Obadiah wishes he could go back in time and take back the awfulness of what he had done. If he had to do it all over again, he wouldn't have killed her.
Willow Montana. Obediah hates the man with every fiber of his body. He blames Willow for everything that happened with Fiona. He is convinced that if it hadn't been for Willow, Fiona would be his. He is especially bitter towards Willow because the two were friends in high school, having taken painting classes together. But Obediah feels like Willow betrayed their friendship when he started dating Fiona.
~||OOC Info||~
I cannot wake up in the morning without you on my mind
- Obadiah actually wishes he had killed Willow instead of Fiona. He hates the man and blames his former friend for 'stealing' Fiona away from him.
- Obediah unknowingly fathered a child with Fiona, and she was pregnant when he killed her.
- The blonde in some of the gifs is Fiona. It is a worthy note that he is still madly in love with her.
- Obediah does smoke, but he only does so when under extreme stress and the handkerchief is not enough in those instances.
- He lives in a tiny house in the woods by Metric. He has electricity and plumbing and such but all his mail is forwarded to a box at the post office.
