Charthur: Part II

Arthur smirked at her retort.

See? Charming. He sent, looking at her next message as it came in. Yeah. Susan and your mother are both sleeping right now, but we’ll probably be there around 7 or 7:30. If they’re too tired around then, I have my car, I can head down earlier.

But he doubted that would be an issue – Susan and Olivia would both want to go and see her, as soon as they could. Arthur wanted to talk to Dr. Marshall about the results of these tests. He wanted to know whether Chardonnay would go home.

Arthur stretched his arms out on the little table, taking another sip of the coffee as the wind blew by particularly bitter. The sun had yet to reach the patio he was on but it was inching closer every minute. Right now, it was cool.

True. They’re actually excited to go down. He sent. When she said not to let her mother cook, Arthur snorted to himself. What? You don’t trust her in the kitchen, is she that bad a chef?

Arthur rolled his eyes at the implication that she’d make a mess of the kitchen. He could see it, but it was nice to see that even though she loved Olivia, she wouldn’t let her touch anything in the kitchen. If they were hungry, Arthur figured they could go get breakfast. He wouldn’t touch shit in Chardonnay’s kitchen – she’d rip his dick off if he so much as let a speck of dust fall on anything in there.

He got another message, telling him she was going back to be prodded, and he snorted. See you then, Princess he sent, along with the little upside-down emoji he typically sent. He pocketed his phone then, and got up, heading out of Chardonnay’s room and into the living room.

He saw Susan up and adam, dressed in a very simple dress that wasn’t quite her style. Before she arrived at the condo last night, Susan had stopped by the store to pick up a few things – a new nightdress and dress for the morning had been on the list. Her hair was combed, a little butterfly clip in the center. She turned and saw Arthur, smiling widely.

His first thought was that it was weird to see her at Chardonnay’s condo. His second thought was that his sister’s dress had no business being so short.

His expression must have given him away, because Susan laughed. ”I really didn’t think this dress would be as short as it was when I bought it. I’m a grown woman, I can dress how I want!”

”You’ve no business dressing like a twenty-one year old.” Arthur deadpanned, and Susan flicked his arm, hard.

”Arthur! I can dress how I damn well please! Even if I found this dress in the juniors section.” She grinned.

”Susan” Arthur intoned, and she just laughed again.

”You’re lucky, you already have clothes here. Will you go get dressed? I want to make breakfast.” Susan said.

Oh no.

”No, no, no.” Arthur said, shaking his head. ”Chardonnay won’t let her mother cook, let alone you. We’ll go out and get –“

”We could go to Denny’s! Oh my Gosh, I love Denny’s!” Susan cheered, and Arthur sighed.

”As long as it keeps you out of the kitchen,” He grumbled.

He disappeared into Chardonnay’s room again, going to his drawer and rifling through until he found an outfit.

He emerged dressed for the day, his hair combed and his jawline shaved. He was thankful he left so much shit at Chardonnay’s place all the time. By the time he came back, Susan was sat on the couch, her nose in her phone. ”Is Mrs. Nicholas up yet?” he asked, looking around.

Arthur blinked, turning around to face Olivia when she spoke. He smiled back to the best of his ability, though when she looked at Susan’s attire and made a comment about her trying to pick up a doctor Arthur groaned.

”Don’t encourage her.” He said.

”That’s a great idea! I want a hot doctor in my life! He could take care of me for the rest of my days!” She said, striking a pose and winking at Olivia. ”Don’t I look like a cute college student?”

”No, you look like you’re trying too hard and should put on some shorts.” Arthur interrupted, and Susan flicked his arm again.

”Little brat.” She huffed, and Arthur gave her an incredulous look. She turned back to Olivia and reached over to ruffle her brother’s hair. ”He acts all cool and mature and owns a business, but he’s really just a big overgrown brat who likes to be mean to his big sister!”

”Ha.” Arthur freed himself from his sister’s antics, fixing his hair as he did so. He glanced at Olivia when she approached the kitchen, immediately going into panic mode. Oh no, don’t let her cook in there!

”Actually, Art-fart over here says Chardonnay will get mad if we use her kitchen,” Susan said with a pout, resting her elbow on her brother’s shoulders. He narrowed his eyes at her, but she’d beaten him to the punch. ”How about we go out to eat! Somewhere fun, like Denny’s! We used to go there all the time when Artie was little!”

Arthur nodded, slowly, looking around. ”Yeah. It’s kind of scary.” He agreed, remembering a few times he’d been in the kitchen and been on the receiving ends of death glares. He generally avoided the room, filled with modern appliances and shining surfaces. Even if Chardonnay hadn’t been around it as much.

”Oh, I love that place! I used to work there when we lived in New York! It was so much fun – the coworkers were a riot! And Arthur would come in to see me at work a lot,” She smiled, beginning to grab her purse. ”I think google will help us find a Denny’s – I think I remember seeing one on the drive up here! Oh! Do we want to carpool to get there?”

”I can drive.” Arthur said, scratching the back of his neck. ”If we want to carpool.”

Susan’s face lit up into a smile. ”Perfect!” She said.

Arthur led the way down to his car, unlocking the doors and getting behind the wheel. Susan took the passenger seat and held the majority of the conversation. Arthur was mostly zoned out, until he heard Olivia mention something about receiving a text from Chardonnay.

He rose his brows, but focused on the road.

”Right. We’ll head down there after we’re done here.” he said. He pulled into the parking lot, which wasn’t very busy at all. Arthur got out and once the women were out, he locked the doors.

Susan hummed when she walked in, turning to Olivia. ”Waitressing was so much fun! If i didn’t like teaching so much, i would go back!” she said. When the waitress came over and asked if they wanted a seat Susan said three; they were lead out to a booth by a window. Arthur sat down, checked his phone, then focused on the menu.

”Hungover nights are the best ones to come to Denny’s! Well, besides drunk ones.” Susan laughed, beaming at Olivia. After they put in their drinks, she spoke up again. ”You got involved in the party scene in college, Olivia?”
