Though she heard Amber, Chardonnay made no move to even acknowledge the woman. She didn't... She didn't want to deal with her anymore; she didn't want to deal with any of this shit anymore! But she couldn't help it. As long as she was pregnant... She was going to have to deal with this. Deal with her fucking stomach growing. Deal with all the looks that she was always given, of people smiling at her because of her growing stomach. Those sympathetic looks, from strangers, from her employees--she hated them! Even those looks from Arthur...
She was so uncomfortable. So uncomfortable. The only place where she felt somewhat okay was at home... And in Arthur's hold. But the very thought of that unnerved her, scared her. She didn't want to be dependent. She didn't want to be scared.
She started shaking again.
Amber looked on with a pitying look, pinching her lips as Arthur spoke. She didn't believe him, but she couldn't do anything, couldn't force them to come back and join the class. Dr. Marshall had told her about Chardonnay--that she wasn't comfortable, that she just didn't seem happy about having a baby. No, Amber could tell that she wasn't. And that worried her. But, no, she couldn't do anything. Couldn't say anything. It wasn't her business. But she would tell Dr. Marshall about it. "Right," she said, clearing her throat, "well, I'm glad that you two were able to come and learn what you did." She put out a forced smile, looking mostly at Chardonnay's shivering, ducked frame. "Um, if you'd like to know, I have these classes once a month. If you'd like to come again, just ask your doctor. I should have a date for next month soon." She took a step back and sighed. "I hope you two do well." And then she walked off.
