She really wasn't in the mood to deal with any of this anymore. Seeing Arthur the way he was, playing with the dogs with his niece, just pissed her off, a completely different feeling than what she had been feeling a few minutes ago; sad, lonely, depressed. No, she was still feeling all of those emotions swimming in her system, guilt most of all, so much so that it would choke her if it were a tangible thing, but now she was just... Pissed. At everything. At being sick. At feeling so terrible about being so terrible to Arthur.
Chardonnay didn't say anything to Susan as she went to go get her a glass of water, and she turned her head to look away from the commotion the puppies were making. Instead, she looked out the window as she fingered the straps of her purse that lay in her lap, watching as one lone car passed down the street in front of the house. It was gone in an instant, and just like that Susan was back with the water. Chardonnay grabbed it and mumbled out a thank you to the woman before she took a sip and then held the cool cup in her hand. At least it made her feel something other than numbness. The coldness seeped into the palm of her hands, and she didn't notice that Arthur looked at her then.
The mentioning of the pie made her stomach rumble in protest. Chardonnay frowned and shook her head. "I don't want it," she said, a little more sharply than she had intended. She sighed. "I don't want to upset my stomach anymore than it already is, especially not with something sweet. You all can have it." She took another sip of her water just as Rover came over to check her out. He outstretched his snout to start sniffing her leg until he got more confident and closed the space in between them where he pressed his wet nose against her leg to get a better smell of it. The feel of his nose made Chardonnay's skin prickle with disgust. She pulled her leg back sharply, making the puppy jump back in surprise. He looked up at the human, and took another step back to her.
"But I don't like him, like I've said before. So could you please get it away from me?"
