That sounded about right, Arthur's family being more family oriented than anything else. After all he, Susan, and Adelaide took a two day drive up to New York just to visit his family for a week, meaning that they went to great lengths to see them. Even if it made Chardonnay wonder why his parents had never come down, as far as she knew, but she didn't ask, mostly too afraid, and figuring that she'd figure that out tomorrow when his parents were actually there. They were probably tighter on money, since Arthur had grown up without much as he told her.
"No, it's fine. I'll stay out of the kitchen and let anyone else cook," she said, even if she hated the idea of it. But it was more about respect now, especially for his mom since they'd be using her recipe for the turkey, which made Chardonnay assume that the woman was going to be the one to cook it. "I wouldn't like it if anyone tried to intrude in my kitchen, or on my cooking, so I won't do that. It'll just be difficult to not... Hover." She was going to have to stay seated, she felt, so that she didn't overlook everyone as they were in the kitchen, worried about how the food was going and how her own stomach was going to be able to handle it.
When he asked about her family, Chardonnay shrugged. "Not very often. The extended family doesn't like to come out to Vegas very often--or rather my mom's side of the family doesn't--and my dad's side of the family just doesn't usually like taking the trip out there because of babies or something. So it's usually just me and my parents. Or years like this, it's my parents with the extended family, and me here, unless they're able to convince me to come along with them. It doesn't happen often, but I know it upsets my parents for me to not go often." She sighed, and looked over at Arthur. "Honestly I prefer it just being my parents and me. Small, more comfortable. So I'll probably be more comfortable with your smaller family."
