"Can you? Huh. I didn't notice," Chase said innocently. He looked up at the ceiling and towards the kitchen, acting for a moment as though there wasn't something addicting about Max. But that was a lie. He wouldn't have been talking with her all summer and thinking about more than just one or two dates otherwise. He was just too stubborn to admit out loud that there was something more there, even though he kind of knew there was. And with his naturally joking nature, he wasn't able to keep a straight face for long. After only a few seconds he looked back down at her with a playful smirk. "So, if huh? Take it that means you just haven't wanted to be addicting yet?" Or, for all he knew, maybe she just wasn't try and whatever she was doing was working!
He shook his head at Max. "Ok I didn't specifically say I was afraid. I just said she's a fireball. I saw how she played during the chocolate war last year. Girl took no prisoners." Didn't mean he was afraid. Chase didn't get afraid of people. Besides he had plenty of charm to win anyone over with. Amy was no different. It wasn't even like she had any dirt on him anyway. Thanks to her having the shipping club it was pretty much out that Chase was a member - hard as it was to keep it a secret. Then again, he started with Clint and Wyatt so it was only a matter of time. So far the only thing Amy really had over Chase - aside from getting that awesome shot at him during the chocolate war and causing him to have a hard time washing the chocolate off as a result - was that she called him a nerd. He was not! Just because he liked comics, video games and super hero stuff...that did not make him a nerd! What could she possibly have on him that was worse than that anyway? "You guys are never gonna let that go are you? Like now there's gonna be a picture in the yearbook for the shipping club and everything right?"
Chase and Max didn't talk too much about ships other than the club, especially when it came to Clint and Wyatt. He learned quickly that bringing up his and Clint's...uh...ok, so there was no right word...stalkings of Wyatt was going into questionable territory with Max. But it wasn't like the guys did anything bad. It was all for a noble cause. Chase called it noble, anyway. Clint called it in the name of love. Possibly the same thing. "First off, it is cute and endearing. It's Clint. The guy's just a hopeless romantic who can't stay away from her and sometimes it's the only way to be near her without pissing her off." Or was that too much? "Ok pretend you didn't hear that part," he said quickly. "But the point is, he's crazy about her. I worry bout him sometimes, too, but the dude knows what he wants. A bro doesn't stand in the way of a bro's heart. Pretty sure that's a rule somewhere." Anyway, he was pretty sure Max - not to mention at some point or another, Metric - was going to find out about Clyatt eventually. All Chase had to do in the meantime when talking about them was talking in a way that put Clint - and Chase himself as the caring, watchful and protective bro - in a good light. And maybe, with any luck, sooner or later they wouldn't have to resort to stalking Wyatt. Or, at least not that much!
Chase blinked and removed his hand from her torso when she mentioned throwing away the chocolate. "You wouldn't..." he practically gasped. He eyed her serious face, which didn't seem to change. "Cause fi you think you can just keep that chocolate all this time and then..." But then she grinned and said she was joking. Chase held in a sigh of relief. "Ok, you do not joke about chocolate like that. I might just have to punish you or something...." But for all he knew, keeping one hand off of her was punishment in some way. He was pretty sure she had been enjoying that. So to go along with it, he rested his hand at his side, by the edge of the couch. Not that it was out of her reach, of course. He pretended to think about her suggestion. "Well there are a few good movies I can think of you should see. But don't worry; only two of them are action-packed hero movies." He thought aloud innocently, "Hm..." Then, with a slight shrug of his shoulders, he let a grin slip. "We are gonna need a day to just chill between everything. So I guess I can wait until then for the chocolate. But you have to wait for your gift, too."
He let his eyes move up and watch her lightly pull at one of the coils of his hair. His eyes followed the springs as she pulled it down, then up, and down again. It was hard not to watch when that was happening right in front of him. "I guess that could be a good time. After all, I'm pretty sure I owe you a nice place to eat by now. I mean, the chocolate would give us a funny story to laugh to about. But if we are gonna go someplace nice I wouldn't wanna ruin your good time over it. That's like, the opposite of what I'm supposed to do. Ok, are you trying to hypnotize me by doing this or something? Right now I'm just watching my hair go up and down and up and down...." He was only briefly able to break his gaze away from her pulling his hair. Max talked about dancing a lot. It's what she did. And as much as Chase teased once in a while about seeing it for himself personally, she always kept her dancing specifically, well, in the dance studio. So to at least have a formal invitation to see for himself was kind of nice. "Well you do spend a lot of time doing it, I think I should be able to see for myself for once what you're really capable of. But just one thing.... You saying my accents suck?"
